Jason C. Kinnell - Principal Economist

Mr. Kinnell is a Principal Economist and Founding Partner of Veritas Economic Consulting (Veritas), a firm specializing in the design and development of custom models to evaluate complex market and non-market valuation challenges. Mr. Kinnell has more than 15 years of experience applying economic analysis in regulatory compliance, regulatory impact analysis, policy analysis, exposure assessments, natural resource damage assessments, and restoration evaluation and planning. His specific areas of expertise and project experience include:

  • Providing regulatory submittals on the bio-economic impacts of cooling-water withdrawal
        compliance at more than 30 power plants throughout the United States.
  • Evaluating the local and regional economic impacts associated with simulated industrial-
        facility closures
  • Estimating the potential natural resource damages and exposure frequencies associated with     hazardous substance releases at numerous sites throughout the United States
  • Evaluating changes in commercial and recreational fishing in the North Atlantic, Mid-Atlantic,
        Great Lakes, Pacific, and numerous inland fisheries throughout the United States
  • Estimating the benefits of alternative restoration options as part of natural resource damage
        assessments and regulatory compliance
  • Designing, administering, and evaluating the results of complex surveys
  • Evaluating changes in electricity production, pricing, and reliability for seven of the United
        States’ Independent System Operator (ISO) regions

    The results of Mr. Kinnell’s research have been used by and/or presented and submitted to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), California Regional Water Quality Control Board, the Florida Department of Environmental Projection (FADEP), Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), the New Jersey Office of Maritime Resources (NJOMR), the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP), the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM), the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

    Mr. Kinnell is a member of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, American Economic Association, American Water Resources Association, and the American Fisheries Society. Mr. Kinnell is a co-author of A Common Tragedy: History of an Urban River and has numerous peer-reviewed articles in professional journals including Land Economics, Risk Analysis, Human and Ecological Risk Assessment, Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management, and the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health.
